Potato and Leek Quiche

18 May

Have you ever woken up one day with the memory of some perfect [insert food name here] on your mind, before promptly embarking on a quest to find the “best” ? You swear you’ve had that perfect slice of carrot cake or juicy burger or fluffy quiche, but you just can’t seem to find one that measures up to your lofty ideals. You come close, yes, but that only makes the search even more frustrating, more teasing.

Enough of this suspense and drama. This quiche is awesome. Everyone should eat it. Continue reading

Middle East-inspired sandwiches

23 Jun

Light and refreshing open-faced sandwiches. Multi-grain bread (topped with all sorts of grains and seeds- yum!) schmeared with labneh (a yogurty Lebanese dip), sprinkled with zaatar, olives, mint, onions, tomatoes, and garlic, then crowned with a few cilantro leaves.

No recipe here. I personally find recipes for things like simple sandwiches, salads, pizzas with pre-made bases, or foods with pre-made everything somewhat insulting and restricting. I don’t think I need instructions on how to assemble a sandwich- that’s the beauty of them! But ingredients are a great place to start for inspiration…

Another shot and quinoa stir-fry

27 May

As you can tell, my whole resolution to keep up with my blog has completely tanked. And my sister has informed me that she is quite upset about it, and that she’s tired of seeing the same stupid banana cupcakes. I never knew that I had such a devoted follower- even if in my sister.

I blame my friend, Z-. He followed the link to my blog after I posted the cupcake recipe for someone on their Facebook page, and made fun of me for about a month. But really, it’s just that most of the time I don’t have time or I don’t feel like spending more than half and hour writing a post. So now I’ll just do pictures, and the occasional write-up. You just interpret the pictures as you want. But I am having problems with posting photos on wordpress…we’ll see how it goes.

Oh, by the way, I’m basically DONE with school and work and all those other unpleasant things. I’m quite happy about it, so I thought I’d share.

Broiled Lamb

2 Mar

Sadly, my mom and dad left me (almost) all alone to fend for myself for a week. I hardly ever eat meat, let alone cook it, but I thought I’d give lamb a try. Many people think it’s too “gamey,” but I like it much better than beef. I like it best braised or in a sort of sauce (like the sort of sweet braised lamb with mango chutney at mOre cafe), otherwise it’s kind of dry. But maybe I’ve only had overcooked lamb, so I actually wouldn’t know that well.

Rosemary Roasted Sweet Potatoes

15 Feb

These are the perfect balance of salty, sweet, and starchy. Way better than sweet potato casserole.
